    A pool website built for a short season and forty permit desks

    Most pool builder websites in this metro are built as portfolios and read as brochures. The visitor is usually on a phone, often standing in the backyard in question, and they are deciding two things in the first few seconds: whether you work where they live, and whether you have built the kind of pool their yard can take. A site that answers both quickly, then asks the right six or seven questions in the form, will produce better inquiries than a prettier site that makes people hunt. The argument here is that clarity about geography, honesty about job type, and page weight matter more than the hero image.

    A visitor decides in seconds whether you are a city builder or a county builder

    Geography is the first filter a St. Louis homeowner applies, and most pool sites make them scroll for it.

    The City of St. Louis is an independent city and legally separate from St. Louis County. Someone in the Central West End and someone in Chesterfield both say they are in St. Louis, and they are describing different governments.

    Put the answer above the fold in plain words: which counties, which side of the river, and whether you cross the county line at all. A short line of text does more here than a rendering.

    If you serve the Metro East, say so where it can be seen. Illinois homeowners are used to being an afterthought on Missouri sites and they will leave rather than check.

    The same line qualifies traffic out, which is the point. A builder who never drives to Florissant is better off losing that visit in two seconds than in a twenty minute phone call.

    Nine megabytes of finished backyards is a bounce, not a portfolio

    Your best photographs are also the reason a visitor on a weak signal never reaches the form.

    Pool sites carry more image weight than almost any other trade site, and the temptation is to publish full resolution because the work looks good at full resolution. On a phone in a yard at dusk, none of it renders.

    Compress hard, serve modern formats, size images for the slot they sit in, and load anything below the first screen only when it is scrolled to. Video backgrounds on the homepage are almost always a net loss.

    Set a page weight budget and enforce it as a rule rather than as a preference. Every gallery addition should have to fit inside it.

    Test on a real phone on cellular data, not on office wifi with a desktop browser shrunk down. The two experiences are not comparable.

    Make the inquiry form separate a liner swap from a full rebuild

    Half the people who contact a builder here already own a pool, and one generic form treats them all as new construction.

    Ask first whether there is an existing pool, and if so, roughly how old and what type. That single question routes the inquiry, sets the caller's expectations and saves the first phone call from starting at zero.

    Then ask what the yard allows: rear access and gate width, whether there is a slope, whether there are overhead lines, and which municipality the property sits in. The municipality field is not decoration, because permitting and inspection practice varies across the county's many small governments.

    Keep it to a screen. Every extra field costs you inquiries, so cut anything you can find out on the phone in ten seconds and keep the questions that decide whether a truck should roll.

    Give people a phone number next to the form. A homeowner with a failed liner in April is not filling out a form.

    Publish photos taken in November, not only the week the plaster cured

    Summer beauty shots sell the dream; off-season photographs prove you understand the climate the pool has to survive.

    Show a pool under a safety cover. Show the equipment pad in the cold. Show a spring opening where the water starts green and ends clear. Buyers in a freeze-thaw market have specific anxieties and those images answer them.

    Show excavation and steel as well. The part of a pool build that worries people most is the part that happens before anything looks good, and almost every competitor skips it.

    Caption honestly. Naming the general area and the type of job is useful; publishing a client's address or an identifiable house is not, and permission is worth having in writing before anything goes up.

    Organize the gallery so a visitor can find work like their own in one tap. Job type first, then scope.

    One page per municipality beats forty town names in the footer

    A list of towns in small type at the bottom of the page persuades nobody and helps nothing.

    Write real pages for the places you work, with something true on each one: the kind of lots, the access constraints, the pools already in the ground there.

    Kirkwood, Webster Groves and Ladue yards do not present the same problems, and a builder who says why sounds like someone who has been in them. Chesterfield and Ballwin are a different set again.

    Say plainly that permitting practice varies by municipality and that requirements are worth confirming with the local building department. Do not publish specific requirements as settled fact.

    Ten honest pages beat forty thin ones. Add more as you actually have something to say.

    A build calendar page that says out loud when you stop digging

    The season is short, the queue is real, and a site that explains both sets expectations you can keep.

    Describe the sequence in order: consultation, design, agreement, permit submission, excavation, steel, plumbing and electrical, finish, deck, startup. Explain what each stage generally waits on.

    Say that the ground freezes and that digging pauses, and that permit review times vary between jurisdictions. Do not commit to a date on a web page. A range with the reasons attached is more credible than a promise anyway.

    A page like that does quiet sales work through the winter. Someone reading in January learns that the decision has to be made now to hold a spring slot, without anyone having to pressure them.

    It also filters. The buyer who wants water by Memorial Day and reads an honest calendar in April will either adjust or self-select out, and both outcomes beat a cancellation in June.

    How many photos should the gallery hold?
    Fewer than you want, organized better than you expect. A visitor needs to find work like their own in one or two taps, so job type and scope should drive the sorting. Compress everything, load the lower part of the page only when scrolled to, and drop any image that does not answer a question a buyer is actually asking.
    Do we need a page for every suburb we serve?
    Only for the ones you can write honestly. A page for Kirkwood should say something true about working in Kirkwood. Thin pages with a swapped town name do not persuade a reader and are a poor use of a build budget. Start with the municipalities that produce most of your work and add as you have material.
    Should we publish prices?
    Publish price drivers rather than prices. Access, grade, soil, size, finish, decking, equipment and site restoration all move the number, and a page that explains them prepares the buyer without committing you to a figure. A starting range is only useful if it is honest, and any figure on the site should be reviewed regularly.
    What should the form ask that most pool forms do not?
    Whether an existing pool is already in the yard, and roughly how old it is. That one question separates renovation from new construction and changes who should call back. After that, the municipality, rear access and gate width, and whether there is a slope. Keep the whole thing to a single screen.
    Is it worth rebuilding the site in the middle of the season?
    Usually not all at once. The higher return move during a busy season is fixing page weight, the form and the geography statement, which are contained changes. A full rebuild is generally better scheduled for late fall so it is finished, indexed and tested before the winter research window opens.

    Rules that affect your marketing

    Residential pool safety requirements sit in state law, but the permitting path, setback rules and barrier inspection practice are administered locally, so what a homeowner actually experiences varies by municipality. Safety features are a legal requirement rather than an upsell, which is worth reflecting in how a quote page is written.
