    A pool website that works for both sides of the Ohio River

    A pool website in Kentuckiana is answering two questions in the first few seconds: do you build on my side of the Ohio River, and have you built anything resembling what is in my head. Everything else on the page is secondary. Most of the traffic arrives on a phone, plenty of it at hours when no office is staffed, and for a good part of the year the visitor is standing in a cold backyard imagining July. Design for that person. Keep the site light enough to open on one bar in Bullitt County, and make the form ask only the handful of things that decide whether a job is real.

    The first screen has to say Kentucky, Indiana, or both

    Geography is the fastest disqualifier in this market, so put it above the fold instead of burying it in a footer.

    A homeowner in New Albany and a homeowner in Prospect are looking at the same page and asking the same first question. Answer it in the headline or immediately under it: the counties you build in, and whether that includes the Indiana side.

    Name places, not regions. Jefferson County, Oldham County, Bullitt County, Clark County, Floyd County. Greater Louisville area means nothing to somebody deciding whether you will cross the river for them.

    If your coverage differs by service, say that too. Plenty of builders will drive further for a full build than for a liner replacement, and pretending otherwise generates calls that end in an apology.

    Requirements around licensing and registration generally differ between the two states. State what is true about your own coverage, keep specifics of the rules off the page, and point readers to the appropriate authority if they ask.

    The form gets filled at 11pm by someone who works nights

    Shift work is ordinary across this metro, so the site is often the only part of the company available when a buyer is ready to act.

    Build the inquiry path assuming nobody will answer for eight hours. Confirm the submission on screen, send an email that repeats what they told you, and state plainly when a human will call. Silence after a form submission is where inquiries go to die.

    Offer more than one way in. A phone number that dials, a form, and a text option cover the different comfort levels you will get from an early morning caller and a late night browser.

    Auto replies should carry something useful rather than a receipt. A short note on what happens next and what you will need from them keeps the buyer engaged until a person can pick it up.

    Late night visits also mean long reading sessions. Process, gallery and frequently asked questions get more attention at that hour than any call to action, so make them worth the time.

    Show a finished pool in February, because half your year looks like that

    Every competing site is wall to wall summer photography, which tells a winter visitor that nothing happens here for six months.

    Real winters shape how this purchase gets made. Somebody planning a summer pool is shopping in the cold, and a site that only shows July can leave them assuming they should wait until spring to call. By then your schedule is full.

    Include cold weather work in the portfolio: an excavation with frost on the spoil pile, a shell going in, a covered pool in a dormant yard. It reads as evidence that you work year round and sets a realistic expectation of the sequence.

    Sort the gallery in a way a buyer thinks in: full build, renovation, deck and hardscape, spa, cover and equipment. A visitor with a torn liner should never have to scroll through new construction to find a relevant photograph.

    Caption honestly. Neighborhood or county, scope, materials, and nothing that identifies a customer's address. Never publish a client's exact location or anything recognizable enough to be one.

    Let people upload two photos of the backyard instead of describing it

    A homeowner cannot describe grade, access or an existing pool's condition accurately, but they can take a picture of it in ten seconds.

    A photo upload field on the inquiry form is the highest value thing most pool sites are missing. Two shots of the yard tell you more about feasibility than a paragraph of typed description, and they let you triage before anyone gets in a truck.

    Keep the typed fields few and load bearing: street address or at minimum the city and county, the job they think they want, whether there is already a pool, and the best time and number to reach them. The address matters more than usual here, because a caller who says Louisville may live in Clarksville.

    Ask about access in plain language rather than in trade terms. Whether a truck can get to the back of the property, and roughly how wide the gate or alley entrance is, will tell you a great deal about a narrow lot in Germantown or Old Louisville.

    Leave budget out of the first form or make it optional. It suppresses submissions from good buyers who have not priced anything yet, and you will get to it on the phone anyway.

    Weigh the site in megabytes before anyone argues about the hero image

    A pool site is mostly photographs, which makes page weight the technical decision that costs you the most inquiries.

    Coverage across this metro is not uniform. A visitor sitting in a driveway in Bullitt County or out past the Gene Snyder on one bar will abandon a heavy gallery long before it finishes loading, and you will never know they were there.

    Set a budget in megabytes for each template and hold designers and photographers to it. Serve modern image formats, size images for the device requesting them, and load anything below the fold only when it is needed.

    Autoplaying drone video in a hero section is the most common self inflicted wound in this trade. Use a still image with a play control instead, and put the footage where somebody has chosen to watch it.

    Test on a real phone on a weak connection rather than on office wifi. The homepage, one gallery page and one service page are enough to tell you whether the site is fast or only looks fast.

    Answer the gas line and heater question before the second phone call

    Equipment and utility questions come up in nearly every pool conversation in a market with a real winter, and answering them on the site shortens the sale.

    Season extension is a genuine buying motive here rather than an upsell. Heaters, covers and automation get asked about constantly, and a page explaining the options and the tradeoffs in plain terms saves a repeated phone conversation.

    Whether a lot has usable gas service is not a given, and electrical capacity for an equipment pad varies with the age of the house. Explain what generally gets checked and tell readers to confirm availability with LG&E or the relevant utility for their address rather than assuming.

    Avoid publishing operating cost figures or promising performance. Describe what each option is generally suited to, what it demands from the property, and what you would want to look at during a site visit.

    A short page on winterizing and spring start up does double duty. It reassures a new buyer and it brings in owners of existing pools who eventually need renovation work.

    Questions we get

    Do we need a new site, or can we fix the one we have?
    Often the second. If the structure is sound and the platform is not fighting you, the highest value changes are usually geographic clarity in the first screen, a rebuilt inquiry form with a photo upload, gallery organization by job type, and a serious pass on image weight. Rebuild when the platform makes those changes impossible or when page speed cannot be fixed without starting over.
    How many fields should the inquiry form have?
    Few enough that someone will finish it on a phone, and enough to tell you whether the job is real. Address or city, job type, whether a pool already exists, contact details, a time to call and a photo upload will do it for most builders. Budget belongs on the phone call, not on the first form.
    Should we publish prices?
    Publishing a specific price for a pool is generally a mistake, because scope, access and site conditions move it too much. What you can publish is how a price is built: what drives it up, what brings it down, and what gets decided during a site visit. That answers the visitor's real question without committing you to a number you would have to walk back.
    Is drone footage worth having?
    Yes, as content, and no, as a hero video that plays automatically. Aerial footage sells a finished project well when somebody chooses to watch it. Loading it into the first screen mostly punishes visitors on weak connections, which is a real share of this metro.
    Should the site state that we are licensed and insured in both states?
    State only what is true and be specific about which coverage applies where. Requirements generally differ by state, so it is worth confirming your own standing with the appropriate authority and your insurer before making claims on the site. A plain sentence naming the counties you serve on each side of the river does more for conversion than a badge graphic.

    Rules that affect your marketing

    Residential pool safety requirements sit in state law, but the permitting path, setback rules and barrier inspection practice are administered locally, so what a homeowner actually experiences varies by municipality. Safety features are a legal requirement rather than an upsell, which is worth reflecting in how a quote page is written.
